Enner Glynn School

This small (55m²) 2 bedroom unit is designed to take advantage of a special site on farmland in Little Sydney Valley. It replaces a 3 room cottage at the end of its life, and is simply clad in board and batten, with corrugated iron on the chimney and rear walls, reflecting the farm buildings around it. Internally timber detailing with concrete floors offer a simple relaxed palette of finishes.

To enhance the setting, the kitchen and dining area is open both to the east over the stone walled ha-ha, down the valley to Riwaka and the sea, and to the west back up to the ranges behind. Outside areas accessed through wide doors enable outside spaces to be utilised depending on the sun and the prevailing winds.

Off this area is the light and spacious living space created with high ceilings and clerestorey to allow early morning light deep into the building. Lower ceiling heights form a comfortable alcove for the sleeping area with panoramic views across the farmland. Behind this is a double bedroom and seperate bathroom, with their own views up the valley.

Overall this building provides a relaxed and restful environment, ideal for an escape
