Hope House

Constructed within a working orchard in Hope, this 4-bedroom house for a family with teenage children is located on a flat site bounded on three sides by apple trees. Set to align with the plantings, its 250m² footprint is split into two wings. One, running east-west, long and narrow, housing the bedrooms and office and attached garage. The other north-south with the main living area, kitchen and master bedroom. Between them is the main entry with winter lounge that are formed with a lower roof. Designed to blend in with the old machinery shed on site, it has the appearance of being constructed.

Between the wings and accessed directly from all spaces is the outdoor living areas. The pool is accessed from the covered way off the bedrooms, with an outdoor entertaining area extending to the north from the open plan living. Quieter enclosed decks facing east can be accessed from the kitchen and master bedroom. These decks and covered areas all proving much needed shade and solar control to the spaces within the house, while providing transition to the outside.
