Sunrise House
Located in Upper Moutere this 180m² 3+ bedroom house.is designed to take best use of its
site along a split ridgeline, orientated to the hop gardens below and Arthur Range beyond
The client’s desire was a double storey space main living space, incorporating open plan
kitchen dining with mezzanine area above to have full glazing to take the view, while a
separate master bedroom wing provides a sanctuary from the bustle of the family home.
To achieve this the main house has a double storey section facing the road, with bedrooms
up and down and services between this and the main living which is formed with a simple
timber post and beam frame, that extends to the timber framed glass wall, flooding this area
with light, while the lower height bedroom wing is angled away from the view towards the NW,
again with the full height glazing to the end, with the view fore-shortened by the boundary
plantings and flowering magnolia
On accessing the site, the house shows its back, enabling the main living areas to remain
private and secluded. Entry to the house is via a low hall that spans the two wings that on
entering gives the views of the mountains beyond, with access through the enclosed library
area to the master bedroom, or past the office/lower bedroom and stair to the main living.
